About the Event

Comic books characters have become popularized again due to movies, TV shows and cosplay at comic book conventions. However, not much is mentioned about the Black origins, Black contributions in the comic book industry and the comic book universe by creating some of the most popular and enduring characters ever known that have cult followings, merchandise, events and roots into making the comic book medium what it is today. The groundbreaking work that Black Comic creators and Comic book artists have done that have and are revolutionizing the way comic books are being introduced, promoted and read. What makes these comics and characters so unique is that they draw off everything that represents the black experience (ie: History, Folk-Lore, Mythology, Astrology, Climate, Language, Music, & Technology). This lecture/workshop will represent and celebrate those contributions and our importance to the comic book industry and to pop culture itself.
